We are excited to host the 4th Annual NYC Women's Surf Film Festival at the Rockaway Beach Surf Club. This year the festival will run over two nights. Friday August 12th - includes opening reception for Fran Miller's photo exhibition PRIMA DONNA 7-9PM, we will also screen a series of short films. There will be an opportunity to meet and greet filmmakers and notable surfers including Erin 'Worm' Ashley. Saturday August 13th will be the film festival, screening 2 feature surf films and a number of shorts, there will be a raffle drawn with the chance to win either a Natures Shapes or Wax Surf Co Surfboard, a Kona Brewing Co Cruiser and many other amazing prizes. On Saturday, May 7, at 7:00pm, legendary surf shaper and designer Peter Schroff will be inresidence at Rockaway Beach Surf Club to perform and document the ritualized destruction of a Haydenshapes Hypto Krypto surfboard.
Peter will also have handshaped boards and artwork on display for an evening filled with music, food, drink and partying. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP on our Facebook Event Page if you can make it.
CJ NELSON WILL VISIT ROCKAWAY BEACH SURF CLUB OPENING WEEKEND: Come shred with CJ as he demo’s his new line-up of boards and spends the afternoon with the NYC surf community.
The event will include a board demo at Beach 90th Break, starting 12:00PM followed by a meet and greet at the Rockaway Beach Surf Club. There will be a number of boards on display bought by CJ Nelson Designs. Once the sun sets, surf films featuring CJ Nelson will be shown on the outdoor screen starting at 7:00PM.
The former World Longboard Champion has appeared in surf films including ‘Sprout’, ‘Present’ and ‘A Paradigm Shift’. Still a resident in his hometown of Santa Cruz, California, CJ spends a good amount of time also at his second home in Mexico, Casa Trim.
